South West Rocks, New South Wales, Australia
Start the morning in Byron Bay is a tough one. Everything has a sleepy feel. We wander down to a little coffee shop just by our motel, and sit in the morning sun. It would be very easy it stay longer.

Recommended to go to a Coffs Harbour so we try and find somewhere for coffee. missed something as it just appeared a built up area of shops and loads of traffic. More research needed I think.

We had also seen somewhere that there was a great road to ride near Crescent Head so we set of to find it. As normal it is late in the afternoon when we are looking. Cannot find the road we need. Following the tourist trail it takes us into South West rocks which appears a sleepy seaside town. Persevere we ride out of town and follow the signs for the gaol and lighthouse. Smoky Cape Lighthouse was bathed in late afternoon sun so appears as a bright white beacon high on the headland. Sitting above a quite dramatic white sand beach which stretches as far as the eye can see. Beautiful.

It is now late and we would not reach Port McQuarie before dark. So South West rocks seems our best option. It sits at the end of a headland, is a pretty seaside place, perfect for week- enders, where the spectacular beach here is one of the few places on the east coast where you can watch the sun set over the water. I had seen a sign advertising a motor inn normally these are ok even in the back waters so we rode round to find it. It was cold now the sun had gone in the last glimmers of light we find it. Looked like at typical motel, bit pricy but I was freezing. Directed away from what we thought was the motel there was a bit of concern where we would park the bike particularly when they told us to us the alley round the back. A quick walk to the room put all worries to an end. This was a hotel surrounding a lovely courtyard with tropical plants and a swimming pool. Our room was at the far side and there was underground parking. The building we thought we were booking was something else. There was even a restaurant so we did not need to go far.

Jazz swing music not to Toms taste so he told the waiter much to his bemusement.
