San Sebastián - Donostia, Basque, Spain and Canary Islands
South of San Sebastian
Checked the oil before we set off, and regularly during the journey. Its still loosing, but nowhere near as much as it had been, so the pipe was a big problem, now sorted. Took turns driving, which is the way to do it. As we're both equal on navigating, there's no pressure on Martin to do all the driving.
There had developed a bit of a knock yesterday, which was worse today. Eventually after lunch it had got quite bad, the trouble is that until a knock is bad, its difficult to identify where it comes from. Eventually Marting decided that it was the front left wheel, we'd previously thought it was the prop shaft. So we decided to push on to San Sebastian, our stop for the night and address it there. I queried whether it wasn't better to stop while there was still light, and we could get a garage to help if necessary, with the tools. We pulled into a garage along the way, and I spoke to the Garage lady. You try asking for a hub puller in French! Eventually, we took her to the car to show what we wanted, and discovered that we'd lost one wheel nut and the rest were in various stages of looseness!!! We tightened them up, test drove it and the noise had GONE! So now the daily routine includes check oil and water and tighten the wheel nuts!
Drove over the border into Spain. Well, we're now in Spain, and when the toll booth lady said "Hola" we assumed we were now over the border, but there was no control, no passports shown. Drove into San Sebastian, which is an absolute maze. We stopped so I could copy over the Spain map that worked, and suddenly the Garmin came into its own. Wonderful. Without it we'd still be roaming around San S. We set off south towards Pamplona, as SS looked as if all the hotels would be Expensive. Heading for one that we found on the Garmin, when we came across this hostel. E65 including 2 dinners, beers, coffee, the lot. And a very pleasant room. Hostels in Spain are totally different from UK.
Been through some lovely scenery this evening, would have been much nicer if a, it had been light so we could see it, and b, we hadn't had juggernauts bearing down (up?) on us as we climbed at about 35-40 mph and they were trying to do 60!

Had a good meal, glass of beer, coffee, phoned home, now off to bed.
There's no WiFi here, so can't post it, but will do so asap.

310 miles, 9 hours moving, 34.3 av mph
