Valdepenas, Castile-La Mancha, Spain and Canary Islands
Set off at 11 o'clock from Heathers. Waved fond farewell from the others, who would be flying back tonight.
Filled up with petrol at Eroski, it's much cheaper at the supermarkets than at the filling stations.
Then onto the open road for the first leg of the trip back.
Martin drove first, and we went via Grenada, instead of the route we had taken south. He drove until somewhere just short of Jaen, where westopped for our lunch, kindly provided by Alison an the others. Then I took over for the rest of the day. We drove a bit faster than previously, so the journey today was completed more comfortably than on the way down. Stopped in Valdepenas at a hostal, once again very pleasant, comfortable and not expensive. Wandered round the town, well, the part we are near at least, to kill time until the restaurant opens at 8. Even here in Spain, there are shops selling Chinese junk, and it was packed out with people trying to get the discount offered with toady as the last day!
Had dinner in their attached restaurant. Acceptable meal, soup and fish, or salad and chicken, with a sweet, and all accompanied by a bottle of red wine, included.
Then back to the room to discuss which route we are to take tomorrow, how far to push it, where to stop, when to get home. Such questions!
