We left the windows open and were woken by the ‘cockie alarm clock’, just like at home.
When we pulled back the curtains the view was uninterrupted. What a contrast. If we booked today those rooms are $799 but just like our first room some of the ground floor rooms have a view of nothing. A number of them look into the back of the beach front cabins.
Earliest breakfast is 7.30 and you have to book. We booked 7.30. The package describes breakfast as a la carte.
When we checked in we were given an envelope that included details of what was available to us. Breakfast was one choice off the menu with one drink. When you get to the restaurant you're handed the 'package menu'.
The choices are limited and compared to the full breakfast menu the servings are definitely a step down. I'd rather there be a fruit salad with muesli instead of a ghastly buddha bowl. I think the breakfast is stingy and cheap. I’d think twice about the package to be honest and just bring cereal, fruit, yoghurt and milk over.
There are three walks on the island, four if you include the walk to Nudey beach - Secret Garden, Lookout loop and Lighthouse.
We should have started at 6 when we woke up but instead we walked on the beach, had breakfast, then started up to the lookout, going anti-clockwise. We got off to a bad start. Off the walkway above our room was a bridge out of the stairwell across to the forest and a sign that said Lookout Loop. We went out the door and started up a path that turned into a jumble of trees and mud. We scrambled through the fallen trees and got a sign and some barricades on the downward path - path under repair. The actual start of the walk was up at the other end of the building.
It was so f'n hot and so f'n humid. I have trouble with any kind of walking up steps and this was nearly a walk too far but I got to the lookout with some careful cajoling by Al, my Japanese manrag and a whole lot of water. When we got to the top the view was excellent.
We met a few people coming in the opposite direction. A couple of people had no water. They really were crazy.
From the lookout it is was nearly all downhill, except for the diversion to the lighthouse
We went on a turtle tour in the afternoon and it was interesting. If not for some idiots who tried to lift a turtle out of a pool last year we would have been able to see all of the turtles instead of just one in the main pool.
There was another beautiful sunset. This time we watched from the beach right outside our room.
If breakfast was ordinary dinner certainly wasn't. Good food and excellent service.
