Chiang Mai, Chang Wat Chiang Mai, Thailand
Today is another 2 country day. We start off in Laos and end up in Thailand!
After breakfast, Alyssa & I headed off on the hotel bikes for a ride around the town . Our first path ended in a dirt road with a shrine by the river. A quick switch of bikes back at the hotel to deal with a flat tire on my bike & we were off again down another path. This one took us past a wat and a silk weaving shop. The silk weaver was happy to demonstrate the weaving technique and showed us all of her beautiful work. We couldn't resist, so we headed back to the hotel for some Laos Kips and returned to purchase one of her creations.
Packing & a quick lunch then, sadly, it was time to check out & head to the airport. Hats off to the efficient Luang Prabang airport. We left the hotel at 12:45 and by 1:30pm (yes, 45 minutes later) we were thru security, immigration, on board the plane and on the runway ready for takeoff (20 minutes before scheduled departure)!
An hour later we landed in Chiang Mai. Much, much busier city than anticipated. The Rimping Village Resort is just outside of the Old Quarter (walled section of city) a ten minute walk over the bridge. After checking in we did a short walk over to a wat near the East Gate. Then back for a swim before supper.
We went to the Chiang Mai Cultural Centre for their traditional Khantoke supper & show.
Khantoke is a Lanna Thai tradition involving classical Thai dance and music and excellent food. The supper is served atop a Khantoke dish (circular bamboo tray on a pedestal base) which holds a number of smaller communal bowls.
Gentle, slow tempo dances, some wild knife & drum dances, and colourful costumes were beautiful to watch.

The girls laughed & laughed about the sun hat comment! Always a Mom I told them. Apparently they intend to always listen to your advice. My advice is another kettle of fish altogether however!
Loving the biking...
