Our First Day at Olympic National Park

Olympic National Park, Washington, United States
Today we got to Olympic National Park which was Shanna's first choice of parks to spend her summer. We called the main visitors center this morning before we left our hotel and asked about church services in the park. We were surprised when they told us there were none. After a second call and being put on hold for about 10 minutes the girl came back on the line to tell us no one knew anything about them but she would make a couple more phone calls and get back to me. She never did. When we actually got to the park the woman at the small visitors center at the south end of the park knew that there was one but wasn't real sure of time and location and wasn't at all familiar with the national park ministry program. Needless to say I think Shanna ended up at the right place. As we couldn't find out enough about a church service we proceeded to Ruby Beach where we enjoyed some of the beauty of God's creation. The rock formations on the ocean beach were great and our pictures don't do them justice, probably because of the misty, foggy weather. After the beach we headed for the Hoh Rain Forest where surprisingly it was warm and sunny (average rainfall is 140 inches per year). Here we saw many very old large trees (300-700 years old) and the moss that hangs from them. There were also a lot of ferns that covered areas of the forest floor. Tonight we are staying in Forks, WA with the vampires (Twilight books & movies) and had time to do some laundry.
