Denali National Park and Preserve, Alaska, United States
This morning we took a bus from our hotel to the train station where we boarded a train for a 3 hour ride to Talkeetna, we were also to have breakfast on the train however by the time we finally got our turn to eat we felt it was lunch time. When we arrived in Talkeetna we could stay in town or board a bus for an hour ride to the McKinley Princess Lodge. We had already scheduled a flight-seeing tour so we stayed in town. We had a private flight to see Mt. McKinley (the tallest, not highest, peak in the world and the highest peak in North America) and the glaciers by it. It was quite foggy and we weren't sure if we would get the view of Mt. McKinley that we hoped to as 90% of the time it is not visible even on the flight-seeing tour. We were thrilled when there was a 2 hour sunny opening in the fog just as we were on our flight and we had a beautiful view of the 2 peaks of Mt. McKinley as well as the many glaciers there. Our pilot told us it was the best view they had had in quite a while. After our flight-seeing tour we took the bus to the our lodge, checked into our room and had a quick late lunch of fish and chips before going on another land excursion to see an Iditarod Sled Dog Kennel which was fun and interesting. Then back to the lodge for supper and sleep.
