The football in Marburg

Marburg, Hesse, Germany
We had a quiet morning after dropping Margo at work. We went out for a couple of hours, first to see Elisabeth Church. It was completed from 1235 to 1283 as a pure gothic church.

Unfortunately there was some sort of renovations happening so we were not sure how far we could go in . We did see the stained glass which depicts the life of St Elisabeth. There were a number of parish notices around as it is an active Protestant Church. Instead of the usual wooden pews, there were wicker chairs.

We were wondering how to get a good photo of the exterior when we found another of the lovely bronze 3D sculptures, this time of the church and also with information in Braille.

When then wandered around the outside of the Mineral Museum because there are two Earth Geocaches there. To log these you don't find a box but have to learn something about Geography at the site. We found a 26 million year old 'desert rose’ and fossilized trees, both from the US.

We found a supermarket and attempted, with varying levels of success, to buy the ingredients for a rice salad so we could help with tea . We got the lemon, bananas, onions and peanuts fine, had help to find shredded coconut, bought the wrong rice and never did find raw sugar. We went back later for the sugar, strawberries and ice cream and Margo had suitable rice, so dinner was OK.

We were back for 1 pm for John to watch the Football (NZ v Slovakia). A draw in extra time – he was a happy chappy. We then went for a random drive into the villages around Marburg. We found a geocache but also a number of pretty townships. We were taken with one that had live sized cutouts of children on most corners. We assume it is for road safety.

After more football it was a 10.30pm bed time for us. We are getting sleep patterns back to normal.
