A lazy Le Marche day

Cupramontana, The Marches, Italy
Today was a quiet housekeeping day. We bought food in the morning, skyped Sue and Ross (both Jane and I were at school with Sue), did washing and then did 1 cache which was just down the road at a monastery. We were lazy and drove to the site, Jane knew about this as it was at a former monastery that is now being used as a 'wellness' type of conference centre. It was part of the purchase rules that the grounds had to remain open to public access. We were not sure how much the Private sign meant so parked outside but we could have had a much better look.

We finally made it to the garage for lunch and there was even a selection – pasta with a choice of three sauces and mains of pork chop, streak or fish . The wine was made at the garage and they also make olive oil. From the front you would not know how big it is and it was very busy. It is a popular truck stop. Jane and Ian had highly recommended it from our first day but we had sorted other lunches so it was our last chance. They came with us - or rather we went with them and a German couple staying at Cantanone for 2 days while they try to make progress with a renovation. We visited their site after lunch and they have a nice view but also a lot of work.

My hair appointment was at 4pm and John came to get me at 5pm when Jane thought I would be done. He returned at 6pm and then waited until I was finished at close to 7pm!! It was a bit like a building project – just when you think you have been forgotten something happens. So I was asked to put a sort of coat on at 4.20pm, at 4.35pm the hairdresser confirmed the colour, at 4.45pm I had a cape put on and the assistant mixed the colour and at 5pm she started to apply it, very thoroughly . They did a good job but as they also did not have the sort of steamer that helps the colour act more quickly it was always going to take more than one hour, and as I didn't have a phone I could not let John know.

Unfortunately he did not have the rest he had hoped for as we had further Tom Tom issues, we think from the heat. The clear message is to remove the GPS when we are not in the car with the aircon on. We were going to go to the Rugby Club with Jane and Ian but as John was asleep when they were due to leave we unfortunately had to pass – he ended up having about an hours sleep and woke feeling a lot better for it.

We then went out to do a local cache. This involved a lovely drive in the Le Marche countryside at dusk. We also visited a remote, nearly abandoned town in the hills. However it was not abandoned enough this evening so we couldn't look as there seemed to be some event being set up.

We then decided to go to Jesi and find the rugby club . Jesi is big, we had no phone and no address but John decided it would be a nice challenge!! We took ourselves to the centre and looked for a petrol station but the only one we could see open was self service. So we decided to just ask….

We found 2 young people on the street but they had only a vague idea. I spotted a person in the nearby video store… next moment John was back in the car. The man had said 'follow us’, his wife had looked puzzled and they had a child in the back so it all seemed fine. He reckoned it was about 5km. So we followed the car for about 8 minutes, out of the town and into a more open area then down a drive and there was the rugby club!! We had a NZ coin to thank them – when they saw money they were waving it away but they were happy with a NZ coin memento.

Jane and Ian were somewhat surprised to see us. They had discussed that they should have given us directions in case we were able to make it and that Jane didn’t have her phone in case we rang!! Their friend Stuart from the UK said no one would be that helpful there. We said we would like to think they would be in NZ, but perhaps you might be given directions instead. But we would have never found the place with just directions (in Italian!!).

So we had tea at 10 pm (they were only just finishing theirs) and then dessert and lemoncello (a popular lemon liquor) before a midnight departure.
