A fox on the run

Ballymacaw, County Waterford, Ireland
We stayed around the house for the morning getting ourselves orientated and organised. The views across the water are lovely and we spent time in the conservatory and also outside in the sun. Thanks to Nuala and Tony we had enough food here for breakfast and lunch and also information about places to visit.

Last night Tony put food out for a fox which he had seen near here with a broken leg . The bowl was empty so John added to it. However, I later saw 2 local spaniels at the bowl so we are not sure if the fox got food or not.

We then went into Waterford and found the information centre. Here we picked up a couple of maps and some more brochures. We found an internet café and uploaded 3 blogs. We had asked for a change to our next car rental when back in London and that had come through in the email.

A man stopped us after leaving the Information Centre to check if we knew Governor Hobson came originally from Waterford.

Finally we found a hairdresser Nuala had recommended and I sorted an appointment. It was next to a supermarket so we stocked up.

We drove to Ballymacaw (about 3km from the house) and found the remaining pub. The one we had heard most about had burned down a few months ago – it had a thatched roof and it caught alight. The mud walls have been capped with concrete to stop them deteriorating before the pub is re-roofed. We have been told the new roof will be slate not thatch. We will go to the remaining pub some time soon.

We then had a quiet evening in.
