A Versailles visit

Le Chesnay, Île-de-France, France
We used the morning in our Beaune apartment to update everything. It was a three hour drive to our next stop near Versailles and the palace is closed Mondays so there was no real need to rush on the way. We stopped for lunch at one of the motorway stops and another stop for a break.
Our main stop was at Fontainebleau. If it had been planned better we may have stopped long enough to go inside, but we doubt it, as the building is huge and would have taken some time. Instead we parked nearby and did a short walk in the grounds to admire the chateau from the outside and get a cache. It was a lovely sight, but did have scaffolding up as we are starting to expect. It is one of the largest of the French royal chateaux and is now a UNESCO world heritage site.
We arrived at the BNB after one wrong turn when we exited a very long tunnel. This one is also a room in a house with breakfast provided. Sadly my wallet had not yet arrived but our hostess here will send it to Copenhagen if required. In other ways this place may not have been the best choice as we will need to clean the car in the next couple of days and are parked on the street, but we can make it work. And the bed is comfortable because John immediately fell asleep.
I went for a walk and found both a couple of caches and a potential place to eat. We had tried to include New York in our trip, but it didn’t fit, unless we paid a lot more. So it seemed fitting in an odd way to eat at Le New York tonight. It was styled like a diner and did have a lot of burgers on the menu, although we chose other things on the menu.
The café is by a church I had popped into briefly on my walk. It is the Church of St Anthony of Padua, first established in the 13th century. It was abandoned after the revolution and rebuilt in the early 1900’s. The name resonated as we know Padua as the city in the North of Italy we visited to see the frescoes.
We took a circular route home that showed us some nice homes as well as giving us another cache. Now for an early night as all the online bookings for Place of Versailles are for after midday so we are hoping to go early and join the queue before it is VERY long.
