We spent the morning catching up, then went
by our usual 94 bus to Piccadilly to get show tickets for 'the Book of Mormon'. I had looked on line and
at TKTS, but no cheap seats were available, and the theatre was close to full.
The friendly lady checked and decided Wednesday had the most seats left and
some with good sightlines at only the cost of the other 2 shows combined (55 quid
each). I knew that was going to be the price, so it is a last special treat.
We made contact with our NZ/UK friends Margaret
and Don, who have just returned from Australia. They replied while we were out,
and we have confirmed a trip to Bletchley Park on Friday to then overnight with
them, and have time with them on Saturday. It is just unfortunate that Jane and
Ian could not meet with them as well (Jane, Margaret and I were at school
together), but we knew that before we came.
We had a non-traditional lunch at Bubba Gump’s,
which John spotted, and I gave him the lunch spot choice. We then did a walk
through parts of Soho to find a cache before heading to Museum Avenue.
John was
very interested in what was ‘on show’ in Soho, but I had other things on my
agenda.
John was now flagging and nearly fell asleep
on the bus. He also was very bored in the Victoria and Albert Museum (‘Blenheim
on a bad-hair day’). I found it more interesting but not enough to keep
visiting when he was over it. We then headed into the Museum of Natural
History, which I enjoyed and he tolerated. I found a few mammals I had not
heard of, as well as a display housing a NZ tuatara. The most impressive is the
blue whale and comparing the size with that of an elephant is jaw dropping. Our
initial thoughts to go to the Museum of London may have been better but I
suspect our health being under par was the main issue for John.
As we left we stopped again at a petrified
tree. On the way in I had looked at it with interest as it is older than dinosaurs.
As we left, I realised it was also an earthcache so I checked it out again as
we left and answered the questions.
We went home by bus and via a Tesco
convenience store to stock up for tea. We then went out again for more supplies,
this time at our local Sainsbury’s, before retiring for an early night.
