We were on the road as planned, ready to
follow Gillian and Ian’s ideas to get to the plane. We drove with them to
Oshawa and I was now I confessed that I had misheard the name when it was first
mention and thought they went to Toronto via Ottawa!! We then caught the GO
train to Union Station and that was both fun for us as we don’t often get to go
on trains and much easier for Ian as he was not in the commuter traffic. We
switched to the direct line to the airport and couldn’t even pay for those
tickets as Gillian had bought them on line. We had suggested they could drop us
either at Oshawa or Toronto but they both insisted they wanted to see us off at
the airport. We had time for a drink together before we headed to security and they
headed back into Toronto for lunch.
The flight was OK but even on Air Canada
nothing much is free when it is a domestic flight. We had cheese and fruit
which was enough though. Arrival was smooth and we used the train, and then
walked to the AirBNB. We let ourselves in and were delighted that my suspicions
that we would be in the basement were correct.
It was a lot cooler inside. It
was well equipped, but we couldn’t find the travel cards (the previous people
had taken them) or get the TV to operate as we expected.
We did a short walk to find that we are only
a few houses from Main Street, which is full of cafes and shops. We found a
drugstore that sold all we needed for breakfast and sorted a Thai place for
tea.
We returned to stock the fridge and relax. We
then went out to the Thai place for dinner. It was very busy but we could get a
table. On our return, our host Richard was watering the garden. He gave us the
Compass cards from his other studio and also agreed to let us leave our bags
here after checkout and before we go to the airport (we have an 8pm flight),
which is a big bonus. I had even suggested to John we could pay for another
night if the room was not booked, but Richard was happy to help us out.
