After a quiet evening in on Thursday, we woke up to a gorgeous sunny day on Friday--and it's supposed to stay like this for a while. Friday turned out to be a bar-hopping kind of day. We headed out in the morning to explore a bit, first checking out a restaurant on the back (west) side of the island for sunset later.
Then a stop at the bank (no ATM fees at this one, Yay!) and over to the east side for a stroll along the water. Stopped at Ice and Beans café and had a delicious cappuccino and chilled for a hour or so on their big chairs by the water.
Then along the road a bit to the Sip and Dip bar and a couple of drinks while watching the different birds fight over the fish that the pelicans were catching.
A little further along and a stop at the Lazy Lizard at the Split, which is the channel between the North and South parts of Caye Caulker. There was a little more life at the Lazy Lizard than the day before (and some very loud DJ music) but definitely not busy and, frankly, not too inviting--especially with the prices they charge for drinks. But hey, it's an institution and you gotta go there at least once. (It was actually closed when we were last here in 2014, due to an ownership dispute about the property).
Home for a quick lunch of peanut butter and banana wraps and a dip in the pool and then over to the Pelican Sunset Bar for Happy Hour and to wait for the sunset. Had some tasty lobster fritters to munch on while we waited. The bar is at a busy working fishing dock, so we'll have to go back for a fish dinner some time. The sunset was not very good--too many clouds on the horizon, but it was a nice spot--and it got quite full right around sunset.
Once the sun was gone we headed over to the Sports Bar, where there was live entertainment--in fact the same guy who played at Hibisca on our first night, and I still haven't caught his name. There was a pretty good crowd, too. Of course, the music shut down around 8:00 because they have to have everyone out of the bar and home in time for the 9pm curfew. I don't think the curfew will be much of a bother for us. It does get a little hot wearing a mask outside in the sunshine but I think we'll survive.
