Go Even Slower--and Watch Your Step!

Caye Caulker, Belize
Well, if it's possible, we have gotten even less energetic over the past few days.  Basically just walking between various bars, restaurants and home.  Oh, we did do laundry on Saturday and did a little exploring on Friday in the residential neighbourhood to the south of us, by the airstrip and then back along the waterfront.  But that's about it.
And the weather has changed dramatically, starting with some rain overnight Friday but then OK during the day on Saturday.  Then Saturday night, heavy rain--or at least what we thought was heavy rain.  Rain off and on during the day on Sunday. Then Sunday evening, just before we made it to Reina's for dinner, the real heavy rain started and continued throughout the night.  We managed to make it home mostly during a brief period when it was less intense, but we were still drenched. We left the restaurant when the water flowing into the sand floor was getting high enough that there was no dry place to put our bags or feet.  The roads were rivers.  But at least they were not as slippery as they are after a lighter rain.  And it was loud!  We were trying to watch some TV when we got home (it kept going in and out anyway) and I had the volume at 100 and still couldn't hear it!  Looking around our cottage right now confirms why houses are built on stilts here!
Anyway, we had some good meals in our wanderings.  Very good, if somewhat overpriced, fresh pasta at Pasta Per Caso on Friday night and excellent fish and shrimps at Reina's on Sunday.  Saturday morning, we treated ourselves to a pancake breakfast out at Caribbean Colors Art Café.   We have just been having toast with cream cheese or peanut butter and jam every day for breakfast, so it was a nice change.  Carol cooked up some Italian sausage with green & red peppers and onions for an early dinner on Saturday, before we headed out to do happy hours at the Sports Bar and Margarita Mike's.  Also had lunch at the Sports Bar (tacos & sliders) on Friday and on Sunday finally checked out Fantasy Restaurant, which we always look at but never go in, and I had some good coconut fish fingers.
We have 2 more days here before we head on to Placencia and we are really hoping that the weather forecasts are wrong for both here and there--thunderstorms every day for at least the next week, yuck!
