Settling into Placencia Village

Placencia, Stann Creek District, Belize
Well, we haven't totally escaped the rains, but the weather is much better here in Placencia village.  The village is at the southern tip of the 16 mile long Placencia Peninsula.  Though it has been raining quite a bit at night here, with a few showers in the day time, the water drains quickly into the coarse sand that covers the entire village.  The "Main Street" of the village is the 4 foot wide Sidewalk that runs midway between the beach and Placencia Road, which handles the car traffic.  Our first few days here have been very low key.  It's very easy to just pass the time sitting on the front porch watching the waves and listening to music.  We have gone for a few walks exploring the village and a few back lanes.  Had a really good dinner at RumFish y Vino last night (Friday), seafood stew for me and braised short rib lasagna for Carol.  But they didn't have the habanero chocolate cannoli that we were looking forward to for dessert--Carol had emailed and asked if they still made it and had been assured that they did.  A good pizza for lunch today at Rick's Café.  We have a Monkey River Tour booked for tomorrow, so it will get a bit more energetic.
