You put your right foot in, you take your right foot out... No, not that Hokey Pokey! I'm talking about the Hokey Pokey Water Taxi that runs across the lagoon, between Placencia and Independence (also know as Mango Creek--don't even ask why). This is a very busy transit route for both locals (very many of the people who work in Placencia live in Independence) and travelers (the main bus lines run through Indpendence but don't make the 34 mile detour down the Placencia Peninsula and back). Anyway, we decided to go over and check it out on Saturday morning.
It is a very residential town, housing not only those working in Placencia, but also servicing the many banana farm workers from the area. It being Saturday, we did see a number of "farm buses" in town, presumably bringing the resident workers in to do banking (big line at the credit union) and shopping. As a result, the one thing that jumped out at me when we got there is how many "supermarkets" there are, so I decided to take pictures of as many as I could. This since there really are really not a lot of photo ops there.
We thought we would have lunch over there, but after wandering around for a couple of hours and not seeing any place that looked inviting, we decided to head back early and grab lunch in Placencia Village. Ended up going to Rick's for pizza. Funny that the previous day we had passed Rick's at lunchtime and it was packed. This day, we were the only ones in there.
Back home for a quick siesta and then we headed over to the Pickled Parrot, who had a band playing starting at 4:00. First time we have have had live music in Placencia. So I loaded up my percussion instruments and we headed over to get a good seat. The band was fun, really just a jam session, though they have played together before. And they all came to me separately after and said they appreciated my percussion playing! Had to laugh, though--they are all about my age and were complaining about starting so late (playing 4-7pm) because they didn't want to drive to the north of the peninsula in the dark! Then up to Tipsy Tuna for some tacos for dinner. Internet was down when we got home so no TV--a really early night.
Oh, I guess I skipped Friday. Had a really good gumbo for lunch at Cha Chi's (it was empty on this day) and then picked up some veggies at a little stand and had sausage and veggie pasta at home.
