Big Finish - And That's a Wrqp!
Well, we made it safely home but before that we had a couple more interesting days in Placencia.
Thursday, we went for a bit of a walk north of the village.  Then wandered around the village doing a little shopping, before heading in for our Covid test in the afternoon.  (Got our PCR results in 2 hours--Ontario could take lessons in efficiency.)
In the evening, we went looking for a sunset, but there wasn't really one, and then we headed over to the Little Wine Bar and had a great charcuterie plate and some nice wine.  The place got very busy later and we had a great time with a very eclectic group of people who seem to frequent the place. For want of a better word, a very Bohemian crowd.  We were having such a good time that we had to hustle to get home in time for the 10pm curfew, but we made it.  By far the latest that we had stayed up on our trip.
Friday, we went up the beach for a last lunch at the Barefoot Bar, splitting some salbutes and a very tasty "black and blue" burger, with blackening spice and blue cheese.  Made it back to the cottage just ahead of another major downpour.  It clear up, though, before we headed over to Buba Wuba's at 3pm to watch (and play along with) the band for a couple of hours.  Then over to Smoqiz again for some ribs and rib tips before heading home to start packing.
Saturday morning, we finished packing, caught a cab to the local airstrip and we were off.  Half-hour flight to Belize International, even with a stop in Dangriga, and then hanging around for a couple of hours waiting for our flight-- check-in and security clearance were really quick.  Wesjet flight to Toronto was on-time and uneventful.  We got picked for random PCR testing when we landed, which was a bit of a bummer, but it only took us about an extra hour in total (mostly waiting in line-ups) so it wasn't terrible.  And that's it!
It was a great trip.  There was a lot of rain, which is a bit to be expected in November, but we never really got caught in it--the worst was at nights.  And we got good-to-great weather for our major excursions, for which we were very thankful.  Some great food and interesting people and experiences and Covid really didn't impact things too much.  The only really annoying thing was wearing a mask outside everywhere, especially in the heat, but we kind of got used to even that.  Placencia in particular is just a wonderful spot and it would be great to back there again some day--but there are so many other places on our list!
