Friday morning was wet, as has been promised, but the the weather improved considerably as the day wore on. We went out for a late lunch at a little hole-in-the-wall place called Barba that had been recommended (thanks Moe!). The place was packed inside & out with people waiting for takeout and at the few seats inside. After a bit of a wait we got in and I had my first burger of the trip--an octopus burger, which was very tasty. (Carol had a smoked salmon and avocado sandwich, which she also enjoyed). In the evening, we also had a very good meal, grilled squid for me and seafood black risotto for Carol, at a place whose name escapes me that we stumbled on. We have certainly been eating well so far!
Saturday we got up and caught the 9 o'clock Number 10 bus to Cavtat, a little town about a half-hour down the coast, actually very close to the airport. It is a very popular spot for people to stay because it is a lot less crowded than Dubrovnik and also quite a bit cheaper (every place in Croatia is cheaper than Dubrovnik, of course). We did some wandering around and had some quality "beach" time (on a concrete platform). We even splurged and spent the $8 each to rent chairs. Then back to Dubrovnik on the 4:00 bus and got ready for a fabulous dinner at a place called Nico's. I had a truly wonderful octopus salad and Carol had an equally delicious burrata and grilled shrimp salad. A great way to finish off our time in Dubrovnik! Sunday, off to Split!
