Making Beach Time and a Big Birthday Dinner

Palaiokastritsa, Greece
Sunday morning started out cool and overcast but it cleared up pretty quickly.  It was still a bit on the cool side, though.  The temperatures have been significantly below normal here since we arrived--typical highs are around 28C at this time of year and we have ben getting 22-25C.  We decided to head over to Agios Spiridon anyway--with bright sunshine 23C is still very nice.  The beach was empty when we arrived, but was packed a couple of hours later.  We decided to take a tour of the caves in the area in one of the flotilla of little boats that are constantly heading in and out of the bay.  Just a 45 minute tour, but great views of the amazing coastline from the water as well as the caves.  Then we went right next door to Vrachos restaurant for a light bite--not--for lunch.  A few hours of relaxing back at our apartment and then out for dinner at Horizon, just up the street from Dolphin, which we tried to go to but it was closed.  Again, way too much food after planning on a light meal.  Carol had moussaka and I had schnitzel, and we just had to have our first baklava for dessert!
Monday, the forecast was for better weather and we planned to splurge and get sun beds over at Petros beach and spend a few hours liming there.  Well the weather didn't really cooperate.  No rain, but no sun either and the temperature was just warm enough to not be uncomfortable.  Suffice it to say that for a long time we were the only ones lounging on the sun beds, despite the fact that there were at least 15 tour buses in the parking lot!  We did hang out for a few hours and it was quite pleasant but not really sun-bathing weather.  On the way home, we picked up some cheese and spinach pies and did actually have a light bite for lunch.  This was important as we were going out for my 70th birthday dinner a day early on Monday night.  This was because Monastre - The Divine Concept, the high-end restaurant up the hill beside the monastery, is closed Tuesdays, when my birthday actually is.  We headed up a bit early to enjoy the view.  The weather was still not cooperating and it looked for a while like we might have to move inside, but the rain at least held off, after spitting for a while, and the wind let up a bit.  So, we had a wonderful meal with spectacular views and probably too much wine.  (Only 2 bottles, but at least one of us is getting older!) It was good that we had a bit of a walk (1 km) down the hill to get home and let everything settle.
