First Blast of Heat

Caye Caulker, Belize, Belize
That first blast of heat when you step out of the plane in the tropics is always wonderful! The locals say that a cold front has moved through and it is only 80F but I say that's still nice and hot.

Another uneventful Delta flight from Atlanta to Belize city, but I find it odd that the leg room was even less on the "real" plane than it was on the "cigar-tube" from Toronto to Atlanta. Once we cleared customs, we had about an hour to kill before our puddle jumper to Caye Caulker, so we went upstairs for some traditional Belizean food--french fries. And I got my first of an untold number of Belikin beers on this trip (The one pictured is actually my second; the first didn't last long enough to get a photo.)
Then we squeezed on board for the 8 minute tropic air flight to Caye Caulker. Finally arrived on the island at around 1:45 and took a 3 minute golf cart taxi ride to the Canuck Cottage, our home for the next week.

After checking in with Sally, the owner, we headed into town to pick up a few essential groceries: vodka, tonic, limes, beer and oh yeah, some bagels, peanut butter, pasta, vegetables and fruit. Went to the bank machine and our cards worked!-- we always hold our breath on that.   Then we were stopped by Andrew the Cake Man as he rode by and we bought some cookies and banana bread.
So here we sit on our front deck watching the world go by and decompressing from a very long trip. One thing that we notice right away is that the island is a lot busier (more golf carts and even a couple of trucks) than last time we were here 4 years ago. That's not saying that it is busy at all. It is still very "Go Slow", but everything is relative. Anyway, probably head out for an early dinner tonight (too long a day for cooking) and we'll sleep like logs tonight.
