Cycling CC & checking out San Pedro

Caye Caulker, Belize, Belize

So, Friday we decided to take our bikes out for some exercise (for the bikes, not for us). Explored some of the back streets of the island, some of which we hadn't stumbled on before.

Then had an excellent lunch at Aladdin's, pita wraps (kafta and chicken) and tasty frozen fruit juices. A bit more wandering, a nap and then out to the Sports Bar because we thought they were having a jam session.
Turned out they weren't so, we had a couple of drinks and went over for an early dinner at Wish Willy's, which was very good. We were really prepared to be disappointed because it gets such mixed reviews, but both the lobster and the pork chops were very tasty. If you've never heard of Wish Willy, you have to understand that it is basically someone's front yard, with a whole bunch of tables plunked down along with a couple of BBQ's. And it's cheap. But as I said, our meals were very tasty.

Saturday we caught the water taxi over to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, a much busier island.
We were pretty convinced before we went that we wouldn't like it much and our feelings were confirmed. It is just so much more crowded and faster moving.
The waterfront is pretty, though, with lots of nice sand and a few nice restaurants. There's even a "Lick's" (North American trademarks don't hold much water here). But when you go off the beach into town, it just feels like "Americanized Third World". Anyway, after wandering through town a bit,we had a nice lunch of fish tacos at Estel's, right along the water, chilled on the beach for a while, had a coupe of drinks at Hurricane's Bar and then headed back to CC.
