Getting (Dis)Oriented After Landing in Glasgow

Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
Our Air Transat flight from Toronto to Glasgow was uneventful. We had paid extra to book the Emergency Exit seats, so I had lots of legroom but, still, I really can't sleep on a plane--maybe 1 hour total in 5 minute chunks- so it has really been just one very long day as I sit and write this at 7 pm local time. We had quite a busy first day.
Picked up the car (with the dreaded left-hand stick shift) after a very long wait in line at the airport, then headed along back roads to visit Sterling and its iconic castle. Made our first wrong turn (or lack of turn) along the way & had to backtrack, but only about 5 miles--can't believe they still use miles here! Driving the car was actually not that big a problem, other than the fact that I'm a little rusty on driving standard at all.
We got to Sterling and had a nice lunch at a pub called Nicky Tam and then wandered up to the castle for some photo ops. Its a very pretty little town and the castle is quite impressive, but we didn't have the energy to go through it and headed back to Glasgow via the M80 rather than the back roads that we came on.
Of course I made a couple of more wrong turns along the way and got to Glasgow on the wrong side of the river & had to backtrack and ended up parking at the wrong end of Sauchiehall Street, a very long street, and walking the entire length to find our Hotel (The Argyll Guest House). Then of course I had to walk all the way back to get the car (& got semi-lost again while driving back--did I mention how many one-way streets they have here?). Anyway, as Carol always says, it's not a vacation if you don't have some adventures.

Don't be discouraged by the wrong turns and wait till you get to the round-abouts, they were our worst nightmare. The scenery looks beautiful. Enjoy your adventure
