A day on the south coast

Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland
We headed off from Kilkenny to one of the most southern towns in Ireland, Kinsale, in County Cork. Had a very good fish chowder for lunch at Kitty O'Se's and very ordinary fish & chips for supper at Dino's (we were determined to get COD fish & chips and not pay a fortune--bad mistake). In between we did the Scilly (not Silly) walk around the harbour and up to Charles Fort. Because of its location at the southern tip of Ireland, Kinsale was a very strategic port throughout much of its history and the fort was quite a large installation. After dinner we went to Dalton's Bar,a little hole-in-the-wall pub that is famous for its traditional Irish music . A group of old (oldest is 92) guys (and 1 younger lady) sit around in a corner and spin some beautiful melodies and tell some tales in verse. It really is a treat, and a few Smithwicks go down very well with it. Up early to retrieve our car from behind the police station for a long drive to Dingle, by way of Kenmare and Killarney.
