Around the Dingle Peninsula

Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland
Saturday was a day to explore the Dingle Peninsula. We took a drive along a stretch of what is known as the "Wild Atlantic Way", a series of highways (using the term loosely) that run from the very south of Ireland to the very top of Northern Ireland along the west coast. Along our drive, we saw some spectacular scenery . As it is farm country, we also ran into quite a few farm animals along the way. We stopped for lunch at a lovely golf course when we saw a sign for its restaurant along the road. Later in the afternoon, we stopped for a walk along Inch Beach, a spectacular, massive beach not far from town. At low tide the water recedes for hundreds of yards and the sand is extremely firm, so cars come out and drive up and down the beach . In the evening, we took a walk around town and to the harbour, which is a very picturesque and busy working fishing port.    A very good meal of braised lamb shank at The Old Smokehouse for dinner and a few drinks listening to an Irish ballad band back at our digs (we were going to hear them anyway, might as well stay up & enjoy!) and that was the day.
