I showed some photos of the Walkway itself in a previous post but the reason the walkway is important is more than just as a way to get from the harbour to Plantation Beach. It is the restaurants, hotels & other businesses that the Walkway passes in front of that make it special. It is framed by the Porthole Restaurant at the harbour end and the Plantation House hotel at the far end, neither of which are technically on the Walkway but which I have included anyway.
The Porthole Restaurant and Minimart (aka Mrs. Taylor's) is a great little restaurant for rotis and a convenient place (for us) to pick up beer, water & soft drinks.
Next comes Tommy's Restaurant, a great place to grab some seafood or Italian food or just sip on a Painkiller (or a pitcher of them) and watch the world go by.
A little further along is the iconic Frangipani Hotel. The Frangi is a longtime meeting place and has been the first introduction to Bequia for scores of people. It hosts the always popular Thursday night "jump up" with a steel band. Next door to the Frangi is the Whaleboner bar and restaurant, another fun meeting spot.
Next up is another wonderful little hotel, the Gingerbread. The coffee shop at the Gingerbread is a traditional morning gathering spot and it also has the Black Pearl restaurant as well as Maranne's Ice Cream.
Then comes Dive Bequia, one of 2 busy dive shops along the Walkway.
Next door is the Green Boley, a good local place for rotis & cheap beer.
Then comes Bequia Dive Adventures, the other dive shop.
Then Mac's Pizza, home of the premiere pizza on the island, including their famous lobster pizza, but also making a tremendous lobster bisque.
The last restaurant on the walkway is the Fig tree, which has a great Friday night "fish fry" and is run by the indefatigable Cheryl Johnson, one of the community leaders of Bequia.
Finally, after a couple of private houses (we have friends who are lucky enough to rent one of them every year), you get to the Plantation House Hotel which, as I mentioned before, is in the process of being brought back to life after years abandoned and is currently a great spot for breakfast, a light lunch or pizza.
All in all, it is just a great little strip, whether you are looking for a meal, a beverage or just to sit and people-watch. There are also tons of other places on the island and I will highlight some of them in another post.
