Some Bad-weather Beach Time

Guayaquil, Ecuador
Well, for our last stop on our trip, we headed to a little fishing village on the mainland called Puerto Cayo, about 3 hours from Guayaquil for some beach time. We took a bus from the Guayaquil "Terminal Terrestre" right next to the airport ($4 each) to Jipijapa and then a 30 minute taxi ($12) over the mountains to the coast. Puerto Cayo really is a sleepy little village, especially at this time of year (high season is Jan.-Mar.) The place we stayed at, Pasatiempo del Sur, in a 2 bedroom cottage, was great and Ron & Janet were fabulous hosts and made us feel right at home. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate at all. We were there for 5 nights (4 full days) did not see the sun. It was in turns drizzly, windy, cool and sometimes just pleasant but cloudy.
Not what we were hoping for for beach weather! We did really relax, though. And I did drink a lot of beer. Had some good food, too. Most of the better restaurants in town are only open Thursday to Sunday, at least at this time of year, so we missed at least one we wanted to go to because we planned on going for lunch on Monday--should've asked. Anyway, a very low-key ending to our trip. And of course, by the time we got to the airport in Guayaquil today, the sun was shining brilliantly. What can you do?
