A safari and food poisoning

Yala National Park, Sri Lanka
Not much to report today!

During the night, I woke up with stabbing pains in the stomach and hoped it wasn't food poisoning . Tim and I had eaten different things for dinner. Unfortunately, I wasn't too well when the alarm went off but figured if I ignored it I would be ok....

We met our guide at 6am and picked up an extensive packed breakfast. I thought is might be best if I did not eat at all and this was probably a very good choice!

The safari went for 3.5 hours and it was a pretty rough trip (uneven roads) along with about 100 other jeeps. We saw elephants, mongoose, peacocks, spotted deer, crocodiles, wild boars and all sorts of brightly coloured birds. Unfortunately the elusive leopard (there are about 40 in the park) and the black sloth bear remained elusive.

Thankfully I got back without major incident and spent the day resting. Tim did want to have lunch so I braved some French Frice. This is what is says on the menu. Tim enjoyed a lot of National Geographic viewing which he absolutely loves. Next holiday, I am going to organise pay TV at home and he can enjoy from our lounge room with beers and I can even arrange for a massage every few days .

As the national park is on the south coast, it was badly damaged in the 2004 tsunami and some remnants of old buildings can be seen along the coast. A bit like Khao Lak - there was nowhere to run to.

The weather is very pleasant. Nice enough to wear summer clothes, but really not hot enough to swim. So after 6 days in Sri Lanka we gave not yet been in a pool! The only day I wanted a swim was after climbing Sigirya but got back so late we couldn't. But we are headed to a beach resort tomorrow so maybe then?

We are sitting on our chalet deck having a beer at the moment and in the last 30 minutes have seen monkeys, squirrels and a pig within 2 metres of us. In fact, the monkeys are jumping onto our roof and they sound a bit like bowling balls landing on it.
