Chilling at the Beach

Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka
After Galle, it was a quick drive to Hikkaduwa.

Hikkaduwa has a bit of a "Khao Lak" feel but without the brand new resorts . There is a strip of restaurants and shops and our resort is quite large.

We have a great pool and ocean view from the room. On arrival, I went straight to the pool for a swim and cocktail. Tim went searching for a massage.

As we have been hotel-bound for meals, we searched Tripadvisor for a local restaurant for dinner and found a local seafood place on the beach. Tim had a huge plate of prawns. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a "Smile" here - I'd go back to Khao Lak just to eat there.

Saturday came and the bliss of having absolutely nothing to do today except relax! We went for a walk along the beach and there was a giant turtle! The turtle comes in every day apparently and some locals will "sell" you seaweed to feed it.

Our day was very relaxing. I read an entire book. Tim was bored by lunch. Hence why we don't do too many relaxing holidays! He went for a massage so I could relax for an extra 90 minutes yay .

I should mention that Sri Lanka has 2 monsoons - of which we are in the middle of one. As usual, I did my research - and whilst never guaranteed - July daily average rainfall is a bit less than other monsoon months. I had hoped for reasonably ok weather with afternoon storms - especially on the coast. But...we have been lucky. There was 5 minutes of lightning tonight off the coast...but that's all.

For meals, we had pool snacks today. We are both a little bit burned despite the sunscreen. For dinner we decided to eat at the resort at its seafood restaurant. This was very good! Whilst I am not a seafood fan...I did have crab cakes for starters (very good) followed by a fillet mignon as a main. Tim had lobster. This was a restaurant overlooking the beach and was a very nice meal.

Overnight there was a loud storm with cracks of thunder and we woke to intermittent showers. Not that it matters as we head to Colombo shortly!
