Maldives, Maldives
Ok. I have to apologise in advance for being boring. Just delete if you don't wish to continue.....

We woke up to a sunny day . Hurray! At We have a few choices for breakfast. You can order to your villa, go to Vila (on our island) for al a carte or to the main island for buffet. I have read that Vila is the way to go....great food...can order more if you want....no children etc etc.

It was great!

We then took the dhoni to the other island to look at activities. I'd love to see inside some of the beach villas over here...they look pretty awesome too. Those that stay here for a longer period of time tend to split their time between water villas and beach villas as they offer different experiences. Maybe next time??

We then just enjoyed our villa for a few hours and Tim snorkelled off our deck. The Conrad (apparently) has a very good "house reef". This means, in maldive forum speak, to be a reef easily accessible off the beach (without a boat) that has a good variety of fish life . This reef at the Conrad is off the main island and has plenty of fish, turtles and reef sharks. Whilst the house reef is not near our villa, there was heaps of fish and coral anyway off it.

We had a late lunch booking at Ithaa, the worlds first all under sea restaurant. This was the most expensive meal we have ever had. But, it was an amazing experience and all 4 courses were exceptional. It is 16 foot under water and did not sustain any damage during the tsunami. In fact, this whole area of the maldives sustained little or no damage in the tsunami.

Given the price of things here, we rushed to get to Vila Bar for free drinks. These are on for an hour between 5 and 6 for all water villa guests. This does bring everyone out of seclusion! After some more swimming, and given our large late lunch, we shared a pizza for dinner at the Quiet Zone bar. To get here, we had to walk past the Japanese restaurant. I'm really not a huge fan of Japanese food so we won't be going there but it did look good from afar. The guests were all being served a dish in a ice bowl about the size of a bowling ball!

The staff genuinely seem to like it here and they are really friendly. They all say how much they like working here and that they have great facilities on their island and that the resort is very good to them. There are about 500 staff here, so that's a lot!

We have booked a whale shark excursion in the morning so my next blog update will talk about that!
