Mara booked this holiday for me as a surprise for my birthday......I found out on Christmas day when I opened an xmas present, which turned out to be a Lonely Planet travel guide to Rome, and she said "Happy Birthday!" instead of 'Happy Christmas'.
Rome is amazing
.We arrived after the usual Ryan Air kerfuffle.
Our Hotel was a lovely little place on the northern edge of Rome by the Ministry and University.
We got off the coach at the Termini train station and walked 5 mins to our hotel. The people who own it are lovely and made us feel very welcome, giving us lots of information and great service.
After dumping our bags in the room we headed out into Rome to look around, deciding on the Colosseum and surrounding area for the first day.
The Colosseum is an amazing building, however not as impressive as other arenas and amphitheaters experienced elsewhere, but it has had a long, difficult and tumultuous history, being adjusted, destroyed and rebuilt many times.
We walked around the area surrounding the Colosseum taking in the other amazing sights close by, but unfortunately missing our entry into the Palatine which was included in the door price of the Colosseum.
