Taiwan has one of the three mud hot spring known worldwide (one is in Japan and the other in Sicily). So I thought I had to check it out. It is not a very well-traveled spot and people were really surprised I had even heard of the place. To get there I had to get the train and then two different buses. Once again the journey went fine thanks to people kindness. The station master in Xinying was really funny and once I had told him where I was going it would point at each arriving/departing bus and make a big cross with his arms to make sure I don't get on it. After about 25min, my bus was here and he pointed at it with a big smile. Xie Xie (thank you).

I arrived in Guanziling a bit too early for hot spring. So I had a stroll around and lunch (sizzling tofu and rice). I asked at the restaurant where King's garden villa was (it was recommended by my hostel and the lonely planet) and after much debate and some help from google to translate into Chinese, the people decided it was very far and a guy drove me there. It was actually only about 600m away!

King's Garden Villa is only English speaker friendly at the reception. Then it is 'guess what you can'. So I had to go downstairs, to take my shoes off, I got given a towel + swim cap and off you go. First things first, where do I change? Hum....seems that it might be up those stairs. I must have looked lost enough when reaching the top of the stairs that a women pointed an empty cabin to me. Ok, so take a shower, put your swimsuit on and go back downstairs. The only thing I can read is the word SPA in the middle of numerous Chinese characters. Well, let's try that way. Bingo! I did find a place with different pools with what looked like muddy water to me. I went in the 41°C one and stayed only 15min. I don't know how long you can stay. While doing a bit of wandering around I found a sign in English saying that you can bath for 1h at the time and have 15min breaks in between. So I went back in the 38.8°C pool for a little while.

Bathing is fun but not for too long so I went for another wander. A guy hold the door to the DIY face mask zone for me and out the blue asked with a perfect American English 'where are you from?' I was a bit surprised. I took a change to have him translate what the different face masks where and went for the one that looked ever so slightly familiar to me, the muddy greenish one, apparently good to detoxify your skin. This stuff has to dry for about 15min so during that time I chatted with the guy, Jordan and his brother, Lawrence and they turned out to be the cousins of the owner of that place. Random! I spent the rest of the afternoon with them. It made the all hot spring experience very enjoyable. I think I might have got a bit bored on my own. They even helped me find my bus stop and made sure I didn't miss the last bus back.

Very good experience. I recommend it but take someone with you or become a meditation master.

 

Taiwan possède l'une des trois sources chaudes boueuses (l'une est au Japon et l'autre en Sicile). Donc je me suis dit que ça valait le coup d'aller m'y tremper. Ce n'est pas un coin très touristique et pas mal de gens étaient surpris que j'en ai entendu parler. Et du coup pour m'y rendre j'ai dû prendre le train puis deux bus différents. Une fois de plus, le trajet s'est bien passé grâce à la gentillesse des gens. Le contrôleur de la station de Xinying m'a bien fait marrer. Une fois qu'il a eu connaissance de ma destination il a passé son temps à désigner chaque bus qui arrivait/partait en faisant une croix avec ses bras pour s'assurer que je n'y monte pas. Après 25min de ce manège, il a désigné un bus avec un grand sourire. Ok c'est le bon, xie xie (merci).

Je suis arrivée à Guanziling un peu trop tôt pour aller directement me baigner. Du coup je me suis baladée dans le village et je me suis trouvé un coin où déjeuner. Au menu, tofu crépitant avec du riz. Après mangé, j'ai demandé où se trouvait le King's Garden Villa (endroit recommandé par le Lonely Planet et mon auberge) et après un bon moment et l'aide de Google translate les locaux ont su où je voulais aller et ont décidé que c'était loin. Donc un gars m'a amené en voiture. En fait c'était tout juste à 600m!

King's garden villa est un genre de piscine/spa et le personnel ne parle anglais qu'à l'accueil. Pour le reste c'est la débrouille! Donc il a fallu que je descende les escaliers, que j'enlève mes chaussures, on m'a donné une serviette + bonnet de bain et voilà! Bon alors, faisons les choses dans l'ordre, il faut d'abord que je me change. Ça avait l'air d'être en haut d'un autre escalier. Je monte et à l'arrivée je devais avoir l'air suffisamment pommée pour qu'une dame me pointe une cabine vide. Ok douche, maillot, je suis prête. Je redescends, enferme mes affaires dans un casier et je pars explorer. Le seul mot que je comprends est SPA perdu au milieu d'une multitude de caractères chinois. Je suis ce signe et je tombe sur une piscine qui me semble être remplie de ce que je qualifierais d'eau boueuse. Je m'y plonge. C'est à 41°C et je ne sais pas combien de temps je peux y rester alors j'opte pour 15min et je repars explorer. Là je trouve un panneau en anglais qui dit qu'il faut faire un break de 15min toutes les heures. Ok bien reçu, je retourne me tremper dans le bassin à 38.8°C pendant un petit moment.

Bon alors être assise dans une eau trouble qui fait des bulles c'est sympa mais pas pour trop longtemps. Donc je repars en exploration. Et là, un gars me tient la porte de la pièce où on peut se faire des masques pour le visage et me demande dans un parfait anglais d'Amérique 'tu viens d'où?' Je suis plutôt surprise mais je me ressaisis vite et en profite pour lui demander de me traduire ce que sont les différents masques proposés. J'opte pour celui qui a vaguement l'air familier, à base d'argile je crois. Il faut laisser ce truc sécher pendant une quinzaine de min du coup pendant ce temps on tchape. Eh bien, ce gars, Jordan et son frère Lawrence, sont en fait les cousins du patron. Ben voyons! J'ai passé le reste de l'aprèm' avec eux et c'était bien agréable. Je crois que je me serais un peu ennuyée toute seule. Grâce à eux mon expérience des sources chaudes a été grandement améliorée. Et ils m'ont même aidée à trouver mon arrêt de bus et se sont assuré que je ne rate pas le dernier. Vraiment sympas.

Les sources chaudes c'est chouette. Je recommande vivement mais amenez un ami (sauf si vous êtes un as de la méditation).
