To the Bodensee

Salem, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Glorious sunshine this morning to wake up to! R went to the shower block & insisted I go too - and when I got there I found out why : it wouldn't be out of place in a 5* hotel. The shower cubicle alone was as big as our en suite at home, then there was a vanity area with mirrors, lights & hairdryers, all decorated with large murals of caravanning in the 1930s. There was a squashy-sofa area in case you felt the need to lounge, and display cases with virtually every caravan/motorhome model all beautifully displayed (but sadly wouldn't photograph).

We would love to have stayed, but time is marching on, & although we left Austria in beautiful sunshine - what did I say about the weather when we're travelling???- apart from some glimpses of glorious mountain scenery we spent most of the journey in tunnels! Driving through the Tirol in the sunshine was lovely, with views of mountains and small towns, but the clouds rolled in as we approached the German border.

We arrived on site in Salem in southern Germany on the shores of the Bodensee (otherwise known as Lake Constance) about 3pm & just nicely got set up when the rain started....at 9.30pm local time it was STILL raining. Gern Campinghof Salem is very nice, slightly terraced and 8km inland from the lake. There are a few other English outfits, including one couple we met at Lake Bled & who are opposite us - what a small world. We have a fully-serviced pitch here too (for explanation, see previous post) and good FREE wifi :)

We'll be here a few days, to visit some story book towns/see the lake/go to the Zeppelin & Dornier museums depending on the weather....The site is very nice, slightly terraced and 8km inland, with several other English outfits, including one couple we met at Lake Bled & who are opposite us - what a small world.
