Off to Italy

Punta Sabbioni, Veneto, Italy
We moved on to Italy today & are now at Camping Miramare on the end of the Lido peninsula overlooking the Venice lagoon. We can actually see the clock tower and dome in St Mark’s Square from the site entrance, & its 30 mins across on the vaporetto, which is 700m from the gate – which is why we chose this site. BUT.... we were just putting the awning up when the world's strongest wind/rainstorm hit....this is R holding the roof down before we could get the straps on - it blew so hard he got drenched even under here! Welcome to sunny Italy :)

The site is lovely and very quiet (about 30% occupancy, mostly German motorhomes, a few Italians plus one other Brit). Any caravanners amongst you – contact me if/when you want details, I won’t bore everyone else! Suffice it to say its our kind of site, but with a brand new pair of swimming pools and a pool bar which is not yet finished, but they’ve bought a large TV & put it in there specially to show all the Euro games. Sorted!

Well, after today’s tornado with tropical storm it turned out to be a beautiful evening, warm & sunny – but with the loudest frog chorus I’ve ever heard. Hope they don’t gribbit all night as we’ll never sleep....we went for a little walk down the road, but there really isn’t anywhere except 2 restaurants to go to, so the bikes will be out tomorrow.

The site gives you free bus tickets to go to the ferry one way and 2km to the beach the other – they’ve lost their own beach due to the construction of a barrage-thing to control the water levels in Venice. There were big hoardings explaining everything, bizarrely all in German .... probably for all those motorhomers on our site. The England game starts shortly so that’s all for now. Cry England and St George & all that :)
