Arriverderci
Italia & Gruss Gott Austria. We had a good journey over the Dolomites &
Alps and are now installed on a nice site in Austria near the border with
Liechtenstein. Waldcamping Feldkirch is lovely, flat & grassy with good
facilities. There are cycleways everywhere and we’d like to come back to use
them sometime.
My
German was exercised once again as Frau spoke very little English but I managed
to book us in for the night. Once again we have very nice Dutch neighbours who
(fortunately!) like to practise their English. It’s a shame we’re only here for
one night, but we really do need to keep heading north.
Today's fact file:
1. Italian car drivers tailgate each other constantly, sometimes so closely that it looks as though they're pushing along the car in front.
2. The whole area north of Garda has signs in both Italian & German, sometimes with the German word first - and this is 80 miles from the border.
3. Both countries put buildings very close to the motorway, a church in one case - the priest's sermon must have been completely inaudible as lorries constantly thundered past.
4. The hillsides which are not covered in dense forest are covered in dense vines.
5. I believe the Tyrol has wonderful scenery, but we mostly saw the inside of tunnels: 15km long, 13km, etc etc, with small flashes of the outside world between them.
6. Austrians have a wonderful choice of place names - see the picture!
