Across the English Channel

Harwich, England, United Kingdom
Well, that’s it for this year folks - we got the ferry from the Hook of Holland to Harwich to visit family for a couple of days. Leaving the Hook in sunshine we could see the lighthouse in amongst the houses, and I was entranced to see 2 storey beach houses amongst the sand dunes.
It was very windy as we left but the crossing was surprisingly smooth (good job, as it was 6.5 hrs!) & we were welcomed back to England with lovely sunshine. The Thames estuary was a lot wider than I realised – we could see Sizewell B’s reactor on the horizon then entered the Stour past Languard Fort & the enormous container port at Felixstowe before docking at Harwich.
A few numerical facts to end our trip:
7240 = km travelled
24 = different country registration plates spotted + 1 diplomatic plate
12= sites stayed on
9 = countries travelled in/through

7 = countries stayed in

We’ve had a great time, seen some amazing places & met some lovely people - roll on next time.

That was a very enjoyable read. Thank you. We are hopefully off to Croatia soon too. So very interested in your route and sites you stayed at. I also enjoyed your very informative comments.
