Down to Dover

Dover, England, United Kingdom

Living in the north of England, it was nearly a full day's travel down to Dover but for once we had a clear run on the M6 AND the M1 – even the M25 clockwise was busy but flowing properly. We decided this was a very auspicious start, and so it continued down the M2 - until we came to a grinding halt. As we sat there, a fire engine and police car came flying up the inside, and when we eventually got going again, we discovered they were putting out a fire on a flat-bed lorry. The driver seemed OK thankfully, and we continued on to our CL (5 van small site of the Caravan Club) for the night, at Whitfield just north of Dover.

The site is only 5 mins from the A2 and only 8 from the ferry port at Dover so it was perfectly placed for a night halt. It was lovely, at a farm but more like staying in a country park than a farmer’s field, and with electrics included. The weather was beautiful and the birds were singing so we enjoyed our stay.
