A lazy day with sunshine & showers

Lofer, Salzburg, Austria

After our exertions yesterday we decided to have a morning in & got up in a very leisurely manner. Sadly there were chores to be done, so while Hubby backed up stuff on the computer, I put a load of washing through. You know you're on the Rolls Royce of campsites when all the washers & dryers are Miele!

The weather was very mixed today, bright sun, dark cloud, a shower, back to bright sun repeating in a rolling cycle. I chatted with our German neighbours who don’t have much English, just like we have no German, but fortunately THEIR Dutch neighbour could speak both our languages and translated for us. That’s one of the nice things about being on a campsite – everybody helps everybody else.

In the afternoon we were going to go for a bike ride but the rain kept falling, so we went out in the car west down the valley to St Johann- in-Tirol, the biggest town in the region but still very small. The centre is traffic-free, which is always nice, and the town square held the church, Rathuis (town hall) and some very decorative hotels.

We walked round & window-shopped for a bit, then drove home via a longer but extremely scenic route through the Pillersee valley where the lake is surrounded by pretty houses & mountains. We also encountered several groups of cyclists - everyonw in this area seems to be a keen cyclist, and who wouldn't in an area of wonderful scenery, great cycling paths & smooth roads?

The rain had cleared up and the skies were looking blue again by the time we got back to the campsite; the Reception/restaurant building was reflected in the pool. Someone with a design flair (or a sense of humour) had covered the front of the recycling shed with sort of outdoor wallpaper that looked like a log store with windows, so the whole place appeared freshly washed in the clear air....

...and then it started showering on & off again, so we had tomato rice with omelettes for tea instead of a bbq, and very nice it was too.
