...and off to Germany

Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany

Having done the packing up last night, all we had to do today was disconnect everything and go, but we did it slowly and not early, as we only had 111 miles to go to our next site and were not allowed to arrive before 2pm.

We were sad to leave Grubhof as we had really enjoyed our time there, and the weather seemed to be set fair for the foreseeable future, but Germany was calling and off we went. It was an easy tow, over a mountain pass then up the A8 autobahn. This was our first experience of these roads and was very favourable – good surface, clear signage and frequent rest-stop places, one of which we used for our lunch break.

We arrived at Camping Lech, just outside Augsburg, which I had reserved for 2 nights by phone. It is a lovely place, very well run and equipped for just about anything. It is on a lake which can be used for swimming and there are surfboards and a couple of pedalos to use. There is also a bar/restaurant and a camping accessories shop with a good selection of just about anything anyone could need.

We had a lakeside pitch, screened by a bank of reeds and with a hardstanding pad for our awning floor – not that we put ours up, we were only here for 2 nights to visit Dachau and the BMW factory at Munich. Guess who chose each visit...
