Travelling across Germany

Brilon, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

Our time in Dresden had come to an end and we had to say farewell to our friends, but they had been wonderful hosts and tour guides, to say nothing of great company. It was a bit of a challenge to get the caravan coupled up and out of the gate in the brief time between passing trams which came within 18in of the pavement, but we managed it. Thank heavens for motor movers! Uwe had kindly stayed behind to see us off and led us through the streets so we could find the autobahn, then we were on our way.

It seems so much easier to drive on European motorways compared to those in the UK, and we had a trouble-free trip across Germany. There were of course tunnels to go through, but not many as the countryside was mostly rolling greenery. We had chosen a site near the small town of Brilon for our overnight stay and the access should have been very straight forward, but someone had closed the exit ramp we needed....a quick revision by the satnav, 26km added on (how annoying) and we arrived at Camping & Ferienpark for the night.

It is a lovely site, 2km outside town and has terraces on a hillside with views of the rolling hills. The owner is Dutch & speaks very good English so communication is not a problem (unlike our last site in Germany!); fees were €20 a night with ACSI card, facilities were spotless although a little walk away from our pitch but you need to take your rubbish with you when you are going out as the bins are a long walk from anywhere. Security is by a barrier with key provided, and we had a very comfortable night there.
