Mediterranean Coast

Fréjus, Provence, France
We left Carro and attempted to visit Marseille. Due to numerous notices saying "less then 3.5 tonnes" or "less the 1.9 metres high,"failed miserably to find a park but got a really good impression of the old city and port in 2 hours driving round and round!
Same issue in St .Tropez (name dropping now!) but there also it was "no camper vans" as well. We enjoyed touring the coast line, up a road high enough for a ski piste in winter (and cold enough) much frequented by road cyclists and a suicidal skate boarder going down hill with a Go-Pro camera on a wand in front of him. Finally reached Roquebrun and spent 2 nights with Roger and Judy. They took us to old Roquebrun village, and to St.Maxine and St Tropez. Apparently the rich and famous helicopter in to a private beach, there being no space among the hundreds of multimillion dollar white boats moored at St Tropez. Really got the atmosphere of the sea side resorts.
Next day we all went to the perched( fortified) mountain village of St Paul de Vence, home of Chagall and visited by Matisse. Then to the Mattisse museum in Nice, in his 17th century villa, Roman ruins near by, and numerous churches. I think we will soon be saturated by churches, each one different and most exquisite. Camped overnight at Villeneuve-Loubet. Saturday, trained it to Nice, took in flower markets, old town, "Little Train" tour of old city and citadel, (fabulous views ) and then just wondered the sea front. The beach is pebbles!! Only one topless lady spotted by John, lots of flabby overweight topless men, and restaurants actually on the pebbles. Dogs on leads everywhere, including in restaurants. Then wondered the old town - lots of people (glad we are not here in summer) and the main city street, went into at least 6 churches or cathedrals , and also briefly visited the Modern and Contemporary Art Museum, an unbelievably stunning building of steel and glass with great city views. Can't say WE would buy any of the art on view, though. Train home, supermarket dinner and bed, walked at least 13,000 steps yesterday!
