Monopoli, Apulia, Italy
Hallo all from Pompeii. Would be good if it warmed up a bit. We knew it would be cool but 7 degrees, cold and miserable wears a bit thin. So cold we even cooked fish inside last night!!! My waterproof shoes feel wet today, did not dry out overnight.(dry inside) and we knew getting wet coats dry would be an issue. Might get out my super USA wellies today.

Sun shining now as we head across Italy to catch the ferry to Greece .

Camp sites are interesting . Not much akin to Big 4, although we have yet to find anything that advertises itself as better than ***. Most do have what we need (washers, Internet) but plumbing primitive and all old. Squat toilets are the norm. Motor homes rule, camps are set up with camper service centres for water in/ out and portaloo emptying. Very few caravan anywhere. Camp bays are small so would not fit big caravans anyway, and approach roads often very bendy.

Now on north coast near Brindisi, in camp by ourselves, John says it is a luxurious site but I doubt I will see it, as we woke to torrential rain, buffeting wind, thunder and lightning. Stayed in bed an extra hour but no change so far. We are parked overlooking the road and the sea. Ferry crossing tonight may be rough.

Finding camp sites is a problem, as we do not feel we would like to stay overnight on our own in a town car park , so searched for this one (in the Aires book) but had almost given up, getting dark and planned to stay on a harbour side car park in this small community. Then found the camp, all still very inactive for the low season but at least it was open.

Have decided drivers here are as bad as Vietnam! No rules, swerve, overtake when they cannot wait for you to pull out of a junction. I then noted that almost every car has scrapes or dents on the corners. They speed too, on motorways especially. However, motorways are really effective at getting you from A to B, and signage not so bad once you get used to it. John went wrong way up a one way street yesterday, but not on a motorway!

Hope you are enjoying the blog- it remains a challenge with Internet access variable.
