Gallipoli, Çanakkale Province, Turkey
Today was the run across Eastern Greece from Kavala, into Turkey, then down to Gelibolu on the Gallipoli peninsula.

Yesterday I had broken the hose fitting on the grey water tank, so we were on the lookout for a hardware or plumbing shop to get replacement fittings . In Karvala we spied a hardware shop who pointed me in a direction to a plumbing shop - after 500 metres I asked and was told that there was nothing like that here. Oh well, the walk did me good. In the meantime Ann was minding the double-parked Boomer.

Karvala was still recognisable from 1976, complete with aqueduct. We plan to spend more time there on the way back, because now we know where to park! A perennial problem in these older cities - no town plan to cater for motor-homes.

We pulled into Alexandropoulis for lunch, shopping and coffee. At the coffee shop I asked about the plumbing fittings. One of the local customers took me over to his work truck, dismantled the bits, then sent one of his men off to find the bits while we finished the coffee. As expected he would not take any payment either. What a gem!

The crossing into Turkey was uneventful. We could see though that there are dozens and dozens of long distance trucks waiting to cross each way, so be prepared on the way back.

Unimportant note - Italy seems to be a land of stray cats, while Eastern Greece and Turkey (so far) abound in stray dogs.

We got to Gelibolu at about 5 with no idea if a camp ground even existed. We asked a random gentleman in the street, and he said "Follow me". We drove behind him up the hill to a teachers' residence. He happens to be the head of the education system on the peninsula, and with one of his teachers interpreting, invited us for dinner at the refec, then camp in the Boomer in the car park for the night. Another gem!
