Rhodes, Dodecanese, Greece
A day trip on the fast catamaran to Rhodes, someone else doing the driving. Well, this is not done! "You are leaving Turkey without your motorhome?". So after interrogation, albeit gentle, we had to fill in a form to leave the Boomer in care of the Turkish Customs for the day, even though it was unsighted and still parked at Mehmet's place in town. So be it, or as the locals would say, "Insha'Allah".

The plan was to catch a bus from Rhodes to Lindos for a couple of hours, catch another bus back, then spend the rest of the time in Rhodes before the ferry departs . Another change of plan - the bus, when it departs, takes 1hr 20mins each way. All the sums came to too large a number, so we did not go to Lindos.

Instead, we walked to the Temple of Apollo and the Stadium a couple of kilometres out of town, then walked back to the old city. A very pleasant Greek lunch, then some time in the Palace of the Grand Master (of Knights of St John). This building was rebuilt by the Italians in the 1930s as a potential holiday home for Mussolini. They did a grand job, but not sure how the concept of pulling up a thirty-odd mosaic floors from the Roman ruins at Cos and re laying here would be treated today.

All around the old city we were rubbing shoulders with some hundreds of tourists disembarked from two cruise ships, but the whole place has plenty of space so no hassles.

For those thinking of going to Rhodes from Marmaris, we recommend taking the ferry across one morning, spend the day at Lindos, come back to Rhodes to sleep, spend the next day at Rhodes before catching the afternoon ferry back to Marmaris. Also beware that the ferry has two lay days per week when it does not run.
