Goodbye Asia

Kavala, Macedonia Region, Greece
Today a travel day. First highlight was the ferry ride across the Dardenelles from Lapseki to Gelibolu. Western Turkey bakers and street vendors sell pretzel like bread things made into a thin circle about 150mm across, so a couple of those made our twenty minute voyage very comfortable thank you. And so back to Europe.

Next challenge was to find somewhere to do the final payment on our road tolls . We found a Shell servo outside Gelibolu that handles the payments , so we were now ready to leave Turkey with clear consciences.

We had already finished off all dairy, meat and fish so no expectation of any hassle driving back into the EU.

Big brother is alive and well in Turkey. We stopped at the first checkpoint at the Turkey departure point, and as Ann approached the window, before she had even opened the passports, the officer queried "John Maxwell?". Our number plate had been picked up as we entered.

All checks went well, no customs inspections at all.

The plan was to get to Alexandropoulis for the night, but we had had a good run so went on to Kavala where we knew the town and campground.
