Athens, Attica, Greece
First up, went to a local garage, on recommendation of campsite owner, to arrange service for Boomer for tomorrow. All good.

Then caught bus and then Metro to centre of Athens, to camera shop, also similarly recommended . They did not have mine, but one 6 doors up did, so now we have a new, identical camera and only have to process the insurance claim - "My camera could not swim!!"

Then we started on Athens proper. We climbed to the Acropolis, and walked all over, up and then down the huge hill it is build on. The Parthenon is magnificent, even clad in scaffolding, as we find most ruins are in Greece. However, the"familiar" snapshot is obviously taken from the air, as the fortress walls otherwise get in the way!

At the base, as we left, we went to the tourist info. I said "With so many ruins, (there are dozens) how do we know which we should visit?". The gentleman replied: "They are not RUINS, they are Monuments, and you need to know the significance of each before you can decide which to visit." Suitably chastened, we thanked him and, armed with yet another map, left.

Walking through the old town, Plaka, we were hailed by an elderly man who was travel agent. Invited into his office, he made us hot strong sweet Greek coffee while his colleague spent at least 20 minutes explaining all about the sites to see in the Peloponnese (Southern Greece) without trying to sell us anything!! Lovely. Great day and definitely better than yesterday!
