Oregrund on the Baltic.

Östhammar, Uppsala County, Sweden
Went first to look at Gamla Uppsala, one of Sweden's largest and important burial sites. Amazing museum with lots of history relating to Ancient Atlantis (Uppsala thought by some to be "the lost city") and also to whether the Ancient Greek /Roman civilisations in fact originated in Sweden! We looked at more rune stones and walked around the huge burial mounds , said to contain the remains of the three pre-Viking kings Adils, Egil and Aun. Our knowledge of Viking history continues to grow.

Looked also at a collection of old farm buildings brought from elsewhere, several hundred years old . Amazing construction technique, built on rocks, from logs, to last hundreds of years without rotting.

Then drove towards the east coast, where we camped on the quay at Oregrund, facing the northern Baltic, in a howling wind all the way from Finland. As it was John's Birthday, we donned every bit of cold weather gear and went for a celebratory drink on the harbour front, after first exploring the small, windswept town. Back to our cosy home for birthday dinner but no candles!
