Orsa, Swedish Lakeland, Sweden
Driving northwest, we found by chance two old towns founded on the iron smelting industry, dating from 1600s and only abandoned 50 or so years ago, Forsmarks Bruk and Lovstabruk. Each had been built by the owner, who had a palatial dwelling in the small town. All the old buildings, including water wheels, pig iron stores, workers' cottages, had been preserved and "labelled". In Lovstabruk, the town had an imposing gate at each end, and the grounds of the mansion had an orangerie and more beautiful gardens.

We then arrived at Fallun, which has a UNESCO listed old copper mine, with an open pit and preserved buildings, all well labelled, to walk around and read its history, back to the 800s . Nostalgic for John, although not much like Mt. Isa. John was enthralled by finding a workshop with old wire rope making equipment. To me, it looked just like the equipment at Nundle woollen mill that makes 6 ply wool from 6 strands of wool.

Next stop, Nusnas, one of 4 villages near Mora that make the famous Dala wooden horses. Almost closing time, so did our shopping and found a great camp at the marina overlooking Lake Siljan.
