Mainland Norway again.

Narvik, North Norway, Norway
We have discovered why Anthony Gormley did his "The Sea Man" sculpture at Mo I Rana. Part of a 35 work commission by invited artists to make up Experience Artscape Nordland, all north of Mo I Rana and several we saw on the Lofotens. So now we know!

Crossed from the most northern island of the Lofotens to mainland Norway again . Drove all morning with beautiful scenery, more tunnels, mountains and fjords, to reach Narvik. Site of much history in 1940 when the Norwegian army and Navy tried and failed to keep their ice-free, iron ore exporting port from the Germans. Naval battle in the harbour with considerable loss of life. Narvik was occupied from 1940 to 1945.

Drove into town, stopped at the Tourist info for internet, and then took the cable car up to Narvikfjellet, for superb all around views of the fjord below and the fantastic snow capped mountains (again!!!) in every direction. Noted scary MTB track down the hill below the cable car- older son Andrew would have loved it!

Hit the road north, and it finally is getting colder. Camped on a hill with a million dollar view over the valley and fjord below, although passing traffic may again be noisy. A group of Korean tourists arrived to take photos of the view and ended up photographing US! The Estonian truckie, with his Swedish semi, who pulled in took photos of our rigs, calling them "Very Exotica!"
