Joensuu, Eastern Finland, Finland
Drove into town and went to the Pielisen Museum, the best outdoor museum of the whole trip. No-one else there, so we could admire the superb displays of Karelian village life in 70 buildings and exhibits. Karelia is what is now the adjoining parts of Eastern Finland and Western Russia. We then looked at the really good indoor museum with reconstructions of 18th and 19th century life /houses/ farm equipment etc.

Then drove to Imatra, explored the lakeside beach hoping for a camp spot but ended up in a new camp site beside a full sized blow up indoor soccer field . As the receptionist went home at 9, and we were sitting in the entrance hall using the free internet, John acted as receptionist while we Skyped the kids, including directing Russian tourists where to camp.

We had been warned about terrible plagues of flies and other bugs in Finland, but, so far, so good. None in this new and slightly windy camp.
